Cable / Wire
We offer a wide range of thermocouple and temperature sensor cable insulation types to suit different environmental, mechanical and temperature requirements.
PVC insulation is suitable for temperatures from -10°C to 105°C and provides a cost-effective, general-purpose solution for light-duty environments. It is waterproof and highly flexible, making it ideal for everyday applications where extreme temperatures are not a concern.
For more demanding conditions, PFA (extruded) and PTFE (taped and wrapped) insulations operate across a wide temperature range of -75°C to 250°C (with PTFE capable of up to 300°C in some applications). Both materials offer excellent resistance to oils, acids and other aggressive agents, along with strong mechanical performance and flexibility. PFA is well suited to chemically harsh environments, while PTFE is often preferred for steam or elevated pressure applications.
Where higher temperatures are involved, varnished glassfibre insulation provides a working range of -60°C to 350/400°C. It offers good heat resistance and reasonable flexibility but does not prevent the ingress of fluids and offers limited mechanical protection. For even more extreme heat, high-temperature glassfibre can withstand temperatures up to 700°C, though it similarly does not protect against fluids or significant physical disturbance.
For the most demanding thermal environments, ceramic fibre insulation operates from 0°C to 1000°C, providing exceptional high-temperature capability. However, it does not offer protection against moisture or mechanical damage and is best suited to controlled high-heat applications.
Finally, varnished glassfibre with stainless steel overbraid combines high temperature resistance (-60°C to 350/400°C) with improved protection against physical disturbance. While it does not prevent fluid ingress, the stainless steel overbraid enhances durability and mechanical strength in more rugged environments.
Together, these insulation options ensure we can provide temperature cables suitable for light-duty installations through to extreme high-temperature industrial applications.

Guide to Wire and Cable Insulation and Coverings
| Which insulation Material? | usable temperature range | Application Note |
|---|---|---|
| PVC | -10°C to 105°C | Good general-purpose insulation for "light" environments. Waterproof and very flexible. |
| PFA (extruded) |
-75°C to 250°C | Resistant to oils, acids other adverse agents and fluids. Good mechanical strength and flexibility. PTFE better for steam/elevated pressure environments |
| PTFE (taped & wrapped) |
-75°C to 250/300°C | Resistant to oils, acids other adverse agents and fluids. Good mechanical strength and flexibility. |
| Glassfibre (varnished) | -60°C to 350/400°C | Good temperature range but will not prevent ingress of fluids. Fairly flexible but does not provide good mechanical protection. |
| High temperature glass fibre | -60°C to 700°C | Will withstand temperature up to 700°C but will not prevent ingress of fluids. Fairly flexible, not good protection against physical disturbance. |
| Ceramic Fibre | 0 to 1000°C | Will withstand high temperature, up to 1000°C. Will not protect against fluids or physical disturbance. |
| Glassfibre (varnished) stainless steel overbraid |
-60°C to 350/400°C | Good resistance to physical disturbance and high temperature (up to 400°C). Will not prevent ingress of fluids. |
For maximum accuracy extension cables should be used and terminals and connectors should be of thermocouple materials to maintain continuity.
